I know most of you like reading manga, but I also know many of you enjoy reading fantasy books. What kinds of Fantasy books do you enjoy? You know, the kinds with quests and wizards and all that. As for me, I haven't read too much variety in fantasy books, and all I can think of right now are The Lord of the Rings(including silmarillion and hobbit) and Chronicles of Narnia. I have heard that the Wheel of Time series is good though.

As far as fantasy goes, I tend to be quite a fan. I'd recommend His Dark Materials for all who don't get offended by playing with religion easily. I'd recommend the Garth Nix's Abhorsen trilogy for everybody, especially those who like zombies, Anne McAffery for those who like dragons with a Sci-Fi twist, and Lewis Louvhogue's Angel Armor to absolutely no sane life form on this earth.
I thought Poulini's Eragon was OK, but nothing special by any means. I honestly thought he got a bit more press than he deserved.

I read the book "Howl's Moving Castle" that the movie is loosely based off of. The story is different, but I enjoyed it as a light read (it took two days). See if you can get a hold of it, especially if you liked the movie.

Wow I'm duly impressed, none of my other gaming forums have a lit section. I tend to read heroine-oriented books, my fav authors (which write never-ending series) are Tamora Pierce, Mercedes Lackey, and Patricia Wrede. I am also nostalgic of the Redwall series. McCaffery is good, her idea of Pern and the whole colonization of it is incredible, the time bending hurt my head a bit. I'm currently finishing the last of Elizabeth Kerning's trilogy, which I would rec for dragon-lovers.

One of my friends found a Redwall book sitting in the recycling bin in the AP Euro room... it was in there for quite a while, so she just took it! Seriously, who could throw away any of those books?!?!?!

The redwall series gets a little repetative... its almost always the same story line... it kinda got annoying

Over the holidays I finally finished got around to reading Wicked. I hated the book & movie wizard of oz, Glinda seemed well, like a *coughs -tch*, and I never really cared if Dorothy made it home or not. The whole movie just seemed wrong to me. I had heard of Wicked long before it got on Broadway, but figured it was just a contuation of the classic. Then, I saw the musical Wicked this fall and the lyrics blew me away. I figured if I like the musical, the book can't be that horrid so I bought it and didn't get around to it till now.
omg! I love this book, a little longwinded but the concepts were well thoughtout. I think the book is better then the play (I feel blasphemous saying that but oh well), less focus on romance and more on the politics of Oz. The author took another's story revamped it and turned it upside down, making a better version of the tale. So here I am reccing it in all the communities I'm in. Unless of course you prefer the light and fluffy tale of the original 'Oz', then you might not like wicked. I hope the sequal is just as good.

That's cool.
Your review reminded me of something interesting... Did you know that The Wizard of Oz is, as a whole, a political satire? Everything is a symbol; let's see is I can remember them. Dorothy represents Kansas, or the rural midwest. The scarecrow stands for farmers who don't know a thing about big business. The tim man is industry, with no heart for its workers. The lion is... the west? I think, or the east. I'm not sure. The rellow brick road represents gold, leading to the heart of the U.S. treasury, the city of green(backs). Dorothy's slippers were actually originally made of silver. (This was during the debate over stocking the U.S. Treasury and coinage with silver instead of gold. Thus, the symbolism of silver walking over gold.) The witches you can probably figure out., north south, east, west, etc. Anyways, gotta go put this laptop away.
